happy feat

In the quaint Whoville of a village where I spend Thanksgiving, there is an annual gingerbread competition. Sometimes my family enters.

After taking a few years off, my uncle led the charge with a 'Happy Feet' inspired entry. My mother helped a lot. The rest of us consulted a little.

Check out their our awesome creation--

This is one tall and sturdy penguin. If you want to make a huge piece of gingerbread, and chip your teeth eating it, you should use the recipe (at the end of the post) that constructed this guy.

There were other super entries too. I took pictures of them--it will last longer.

so very savory

cheese in my fridge

a need to make cookies when it snows outside

parmesan pepper cookies

Picture if cheese and crackers had a baby.

Heartier, classier, party-presentable Cheez-It.

What I'm getting at is--it's about time I had a wine and cheese [cookie] gathering.

You should probably have one too.

all dolled up

I learned about Hello Dollies in one of my top five favorite movies. I have seen the movie more times than I can even ballpark but never made the featured baked good until this past weekend.

The first attempt was structurally semi-successful, but taste-wise quite excellent. And they made the perfect accompaniment for yet another viewing.

tout lemon

Two Christmases ago I was gifted an immersion blender that I had enthusiastically asked for.

It then sat untouched on the floor of my kitchen for six months.

Until I realized how great it is to blend.

This lemon bar recipe is perfect for my blending excitement as you get to pulverize a whole lemon, rind and all, for the filling.

The moral of this post--when life hands you lemons, take them down with your immersion blender.

we like ike[a]!

At the conclusion of the major Ikea battle need v. want v. really, really want thus need you are rewarded with Ikea Food.

I closed out my most recent trip with these imports: great sandwich cookies with vanilla raspberry and chocolate hazelnut filling.

I feel safer going forward knowing the outcome of the next battle--

I really, really need these.

let's get bacon

Ever since I attended a Super Bowl gathering in college and was presented with Sausage Cookies, The Big Game has always been associated with meat cookies for me.

While the Sausage Cookies were really just Sausage Biscuits gone flat, my baking venture for this year's Super Bowl is the totally intentional Peanut Butter Bacon Cookie.

I think we have a winner.

[christmas] eve-ing on a jet plane

'Twas the night before Christmas and of our Holiday Fête
There were cookies to make and drinks still to get
The baking stuffs all were laid out with such care
I was in transit, but soon would be there

After a half-day of travel, into the kitchen I darted
The cookies, I exclaimed, they must get started!
There is no time to lose, we've deadlines to meet
And where would we be without cookies to eat?

The confections were plated, piled high in a dome
The guests came and mingled and then drifted home
A good night, we judged, by the crumbs on the plate
Merry Christmas to all, a week or so late!
